Don’t overlook London Humphreys

Just a year after transferring to Georgia, London Humphreys is now a leader in the receiver room for the Bulldogs.

It was just this time last year that London Humphreys was the new guy who had joined Georgia via the transfer portal. Now, heading into his junior season, Humphreys is a veteran in that receiver room, where two new transfers and five freshmen joined him this offseason.

“Obviously, I have more knowledge than this time last year. So when you talk about my role in the room, I’ve been able to help young guys and teach,” Humphreys said. “I think I’ve done a good job setting an example. I’m just showing guys how the receiver group should operate.”

He is responsible for “setting the standard,” despite just 13 appearances in a Georgia uniform thus far.

After an offseason where head coach Kirby Smart made the mantra of playing with “fire, passion, and energy” an emphasis, Humphreys has exhibited those three traits, as evidenced by the blue guardian cap he wears.

“I was proud to earn one. It felt like a good accomplishment. But Coach Smart’s been big on having that passion and fire for the game,” Humphreys said of the blue cap. “Mine came after summer workouts and everything at the beginning of camp. So, I mean, I just enjoyed those workouts. Got better, stronger, faster, all the things. But, yeah, I was excited to get one.”

The former Vanderbilt transfer played in all 13 games last season for the Bulldogs and finished with 244 yards with two touchdowns on 15 receptions. He didn’t have the most eye-popping production, but his role at Georgia goes beyond just the statsheet.

With the loss of Arian Smith and Dominic Lovett to the NFL, Humphreys finished only behind Dillon Bell in yards last season among Georgia’s returning receivers.

Yet, even without the desirable returning production, Smart knows what he has in Humphreys.

“He’s a high-quality special teams player, has become very reliable, made some huge plays for us last year, …” Smart said of Humphreys. “He has consistency in performance, he has dependability, he’s got fire passion and energy. We’re very fortunate to have someone of his character, quality, speed, athleticism, so we’ve got a lot of expectations for him.”
