Three members of the Rutgers Football program were named to the 2026 Panini Senior Bowl Top 300 watch list on Wednesday morning, the organization announced.
The three Scarlet Knights to make the list are running back CJ Campbell Jr., wide receiver DT Sheffield, and edge rusher Eric O’Neill, all three of which transferred into the program this summer.
RB CJ Campbell Jr.
Starting with Campbell, he joins Rutgers after stints at both Florida State (walk-on) and Florida Atlantic, where he took his game to the next level. Last season with the Owls, Campbell rushed for 844 yards and 11 touchdowns, with a total of 1,310 all purpose yards on the year.
WR DT Sheffield
Sheffield has made quite the journey since his high school days, going from three years at Northwest Mississippi CC (JUCO) to Washington State to North Texas, where he stole the show. Last season with the Mean Green, Sheffield hauled in 66 receptions for 822 yards and 11 touchdowns, that last number was good enough to finish seventh nationally. He also had 13 punt returns for 157 yards and six kick returns for 127 yards last season.
EDGE Eric O’Neill
Last, but not least, O’Neill returns home (sort of), as he was born and raised down the street in Staten Island, New York. Despite being a New York native, he did spend some time in New Jersey for his high school ball, as he played a season for Paramus Catholic. Following high school, O’Neill signed on with Long Island University and spent a couple years there, before making the trip to James Madison prior to the 2024 season. In his lone year with the Dukes, O’Neill finished with 52 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 13.0 sacks, and one interception returned for a touchdown.
Going back to the Senior Bowl, it’s considered one of the top college football all-star games out there and has been going on annually dating back to 1950. Since the start of the bowl, 18 different Scarlet Knights have had the honor of participating in it.
