Former All-Pro cornerback A.J. Bouye gave out his list of top NFL DBs during a recent gaming livestream, and right at the top of the list was a name that’ll grab the attention of Gamecock fans Jaycee Horn.
Bouye, who’s best known for his dominant years in Jacksonville alongside Jalen Ramsey, didn’t hesitate to show love to the former South Carolina standout. He and Ramsey formed one of the top cornerback duos in football back in 2017, when Bouye earned All-Pro honors and helped lead a stacked Jags defense deep into the playoffs. He still holds the lowest passer rating allowed by a DB since 2006.
Now a few years removed from the league, Bouye’s built up a solid following on his stream, and with that has come more NFL talk. Naturally, fans wanted to hear who he thinks the best corners in the game are.
Jaycee Horn was the first name that came up.
“If he stays healthy, he’s top five in my book,” Bouye said. “I’ve seen him in person, he’s really like that.”
Bouye explained he first met Horn while he was still at South Carolina. The two share the same trainer, Oliver Davis, and Bouye admitted his first impression of Horn was a bit off at first, he thought Horn was a safety.
“He told me [Jaycee] was up next and I thought he was a safety at first,” Bouye said. “Then I learned real quick he’s like that.”
He went a step further, saying that when Horn is healthy, he sees him as being on the same level as Patrick Surtain II l widely viewed as one of the top corners in the game.
“Him and Patrick Surtain are 1 and 2. When healthy, it’s 1A and 1B with Jaycee and Patrick,” Bouye added.
He also gave nods to Sauce Gardner, Derek Stingley Jr., and Christian Gonzalez to round out his top five.
Horn is coming off his first Pro Bowl season and earlier this offseason signed a $100 million contract that briefly made him the highest-paid corner in the NFL, before he was passed shortly after. Still, he’s now one of the most respected and well-compensated corners in the league and he’s earning high praise from guys who’ve played the position at the highest level
