Wondering why NFL fans are suddenly talking about Rich Eisen’s future? A recent update about his role has sparked speculation over whether he is moving on from NFL Network. The longtime host will appear on new programs while balancing current commitments, sparking curiosity about what this shift means for his career.
Here’s what we know so far about his expanded responsibilities, the network changes behind them, and how viewers might see more of him this season.
Is Rich Eisen leaving NFL Network?
Rich Eisen is not leaving NFL Network. Instead, his role is expanding after ESPN reached an agreement to acquire NFL Network and other assets from the NFL (via ESPN Press Room).
As part of this transition, ESPN confirmed Eisen will return as an anchor on SportsCenter for the first time since 2003. He will debut on August 18, 2025, after the Washington Commanders vs. Cincinnati Bengals preseason game.
Eisen first joined ESPN in 1996 and anchored SportsCenter until 2003, before leaving to become one of the first on-air talents at the then-newly launched NFL Network. He went on to host its flagship program, NFL GameDay Morning. With ESPN’s acquisition of NFL Network, Eisen’s responsibilities will now include appearances on both networks. Eisen will remain on NFL Network shows while also anchoring ESPN programming.
Alongside this development, The Rich Eisen Show is also moving to ESPN. The program, which previously aired on Roku, will debut September 2, 2025, on ESPN+ and Disney+ in its familiar 12 to 3 p.m. ET weekday slot. The network confirmed that Eisen will also feature in other ESPN studio shows during the NFL season.
On August 18, Eisen will co-anchor SportsCenter live from Los Angeles with Mina Kimes, marking their first time hosting together. His ESPN colleague Pat McAfee reacted to the announcement by saying, “Learned Rich Eisen’s coming back to ESPN… I’m a big fan of Rich. Rich has been very nice to me, very cool to me. He’s going live, noon to 3 Eastern. That feels very interesting.”
Eisen’s return is part of ESPN’s broader strategy following the merger, which also involves acquiring NFL RedZone and NFL Fantasy. He will continue his longstanding work with NFL Network while simultaneously anchoring ESPN shows.
