Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora made a decision on starting pitcher Garrett Crochet.

Left-handed starting pitcher Garrett Crochet is in his fifth major-league season and first as a member of the Boston Red Sox.
Originally selected by the Chicago White Sox in the first round of the 2020 MLB Draft, he debuted in the big leagues a year later at age 21.
Crochet began his career as a reliever but, after Tommy John surgery cost him the entire 2023 season, reestablished himself as a starter in 2024. He broke out that year, making his first All-Star Game with a 3.58 ERA across 32 starts and striking out 209 batters over 146 innings.
Following a disastrous 2024 campaign that saw the White Sox lose a record-breaking 121 games, Chicago traded Crochet to Boston, which promptly rewarded him with a six-year, $170 million contract extension—a clear signal of the organization's faith in him as a front-line starter.
In 2025, Crochet has built on last year’s breakthrough, firmly operating as the Red Sox’ ace and giving the rotation much-needed consistency.
On Tuesday, ahead of a game against the Colorado Rockies, manager Alex Cora said Crochet would likely shift his next appearance to Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays instead of his originally scheduled Friday start, granting him an extra day of rest.

With the All-Star break approaching, Crochet earned his second straight All-Star selection on Sunday. Through 19 starts this season, he has compiled a 9–4 record, a 2.39 ERA and an MLB-leading 151 strikeouts.
Though Boston is riding a four-game winning streak, the Red Sox sit two games back of a wild-card spot at 47–45. Crochet’s contributions have been monumental in keeping the club alive in the playoff hunt.
