The Denver Nuggets are coming off a season that shocked many when they ousted both head coach Michael Malone and general manager Calvin Booth, despite having a solid record at the time. It was more about the timing of the moves that puzzled people around the league, as they were just days away from the conclusion of the regular season.
The Nuggets entered the playoffs with David Adelman serving as the interim head coach, and many thought the Nuggets were throwing in the towel for the season. That proved not to be the case, as the Nuggets defeated the then-red-hot Los Angeles Clippers in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.

After their seven-game series with the Clippers, they were matched up against the No. 1 seed Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round. Once again, it was a hard-fought series, with the Nuggets pushing the eventual NBA Champions to seven games, giving them all they could handle.
Unfortunately, Nikola Jokić was noticeably wearing down, while injuries hindered other significant players on the team. One of the more devastating injuries was to Michael Porter Jr.'s shoulder. He was noticeably in pain, and his shooting numbers suffered as a result.
In an offseason seeking drastic changes, the Nuggets traded Porter Jr. and a 2032 first-round draft pick for forward Cam Johnson. Once the move was made official, the Nuggets sent a message to Porter Jr.
"Thank you MPJ," read the Nuggets' X post. "Wishing you the best in your next chapter."

The move will likely bolster the Nuggets' offense, but it also gives them more flexibility for the future, freeing up space from Porter Jr.'s massive salary.Â
Johnson averaged a career-high 18.8 points per game with the Nets this past season on a career-best 47.5% field-goal percentage, including 39% from three.
