The LSU Tigers are entering the 2025 season with a lot to prove after missing out on the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff in 2024.

Under head coach Brian Kelly, the Tigers have found moderate success—posting nine or ten wins in each of his three seasons at the helm—but have yet to turn that into something greater than a string of bowl victories. For a program like LSU, it’s national championship or bust.

That’s why the Tigers received a major boost this offseason when star quarterback Garrett Nussmeier announced his return for a fifth and final season in Baton Rouge.

On Tuesday, LSU announced that Nussmeier will be one of three players representing the program at SEC Media Days on July 14 in Atlanta, highlighting his leadership role heading into the new campaign.

Nussmeier will be joined by wide receiver Chris Hilton Jr. and linebacker Whit Weeks for the event, drawing strong reactions from LSU fans who are clearly optimistic about the upcoming season.

"Future Champs!!!!!!!!!! Geaux Tigers," a fan said.

Another fan posted, "NCAA Champions this coming season."

Someone else added, "Give 13 the Heisman now."

"Should’ve just rolled with whit and nuss … Chris won’t even be healthy or good for the season until game 10 like always," one more fan commented.

LSU opens the regular season on August 30 against the Clemson Tigers, kicking off what promises to be a grueling schedule that also includes matchups with Florida, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Alabama, and Oklahoma in a loaded SEC slate.

Nonetheless, having a seasoned quarterback like Garrett Nussmeier under center could prove pivotal for what the Tigers hope to achieve this season.

In 2024, Nussmeier completed 64.2% of his passes for 4,052 yards, 29 touchdowns, and just 12 interceptions, finishing the year with a 142.7 passer rating.
