Chelsea lead 2-0 in Philadelphia!
It’s Joao Pedro who has got it once again. The striker lashed in a superb first for the Blues and didn’t celebrate, as he is taking on his boyhood club Fluminense.
Well he’s clearly not that sorry – as he’s just gone and done it again. This time he was driving down the left side, squaring up a defender and pushing him back towards his own line. When no challenge came in, the striker clearly thought he would have a go. He shifted it onto his right and slammed it, the ball crashing in off the bar in an immensely satisfying way.
He’s showed it all off today – great strength, movement and work rate, as well as nice link up play. Nicolas Jackson and Liam Delap can offer that too.
But the quality of ball striking technique he showed in lashing in both of these two goals is really exceptional, and is what he has over his rivals for the striker role.
You can see the goal in the clips embedded here:

Joao Pedro was handed a nice start to his Chelsea career – Nicolas Jackson being banned, then Liam Delap being banned has forced Enzo Maresca to use more of the Brazilian than he might have intended to, and he’s made the most of it without doubt.
He played really well as a sub against Palmeiras just days after signing – Cole Palmer said he “changed the game”, and now has 2 goals on his full debut. You can’t ask for much better than that.
Come Sunday, Jackson Delap and Joao Pedro will all be available – but we know who our money is on to be leading the line. The Brazilian has leapt from new signing to first choice striker in about 90 total minutes of football.
