Disqualified Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contestant Madison Boone, 24, is opening up about her unprecedented disqualification — and it seems like she’s getting the last laugh.
During The Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest, that occurred on Friday, July 4, the New Jersey native ate nine hot dogs within the 10-minute time limit. However, while the top five finalists were being announced, Barone vomited into a nearby trashcan.
“As soon as I got off the stage, everything came up, it wasn't even like I was sick,” Barone told USA Today. “It was more of force. It was more of my body just letting it go.” Though Barone has finished her quantity of hot dogs, she didn’t keep them down long enough for the announcements to reveal the finalists, which is against the guidelines of participating.

Miki Sudo wins the womens competition at Nathan's Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest on July 4, 2025 in New York City"Ms. Barone experienced urges contrary to swallowing after the contest but before the conclusion of presentations and the awarding of places," said Sam Barclay, director of operations at Major League Eating. "By Major League Eating rules, urges contrary to swallowing before the conclusion of the event, including presentations and the awarding of prizes, results in a DQ."
Barone, who was a wild-card contestant that made her debut in the competition, says she’s not disappointed nor embarrassed by her inclusion in this year’s game, despite disqualification, and aims to participate next year.
“If I do,'' she teased to the outlet, "it's going to be the biggest comeback ever.’’
Ultimately, the winner of the women’s title competition was the undefeated Miki Sudo, who took home the title for the 11th time after scarfing down 33 hot dogs in under 10 minutes.
"The hot dogs were great, the weather's beautiful, the crowd had me going," Sudo told ESPN following her momentous victory. "I'm thinking the buns were more filling than usual. It's OK. A win's a win. Thank you for the support."
Sudo previously claimed the title every year between 2014 and 2020 and then again from 2022 to now. Sudo did not participate in 2021 as she was pregnant that year. The Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest is held every July 4 in Coney Island in New York.
