All the attention is on Chelsea’s game against Fluminense in the Club World Cup semi final this evening, but shortly before kick off there was some really interesting transfer news which came out and is worth reporting on now.
Another Premier League team lines up to try and sign Chelsea stopper
Dominik Schneider’s Tweet about Bournemouth interest in Djordje Petrovic.
Earlier today we had noted that the Athletic were reporting that there were 6 teams interested in Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic. We already knew that Sunderland were one of them, given the strong links with them that came out last week. Now we know another – transfer insider Dominik Schneider has today reported that Bournemouth are now in the chase.
He makes it sound like a done deal – he says Petrovic is “set to join Bournemouth” and that the Cherries have “reached an agreement” with the Blues. But we’re reluctant to believe things are quite that advanced just yet given just a week ago a move to Sunderland was being called done.
Schneider does that there are still “details and formalities” that need to be sorted out between the clubs, even if the baseline fee is agreed, and there’s also the question of his personal terms with the Cherries.
Chelsea hope bidding war will bring up goalie’s price
There are no details about what money Bournemouth might be willing to offer, but given there’s clearly a lot of interest in the Serbian stopper, we’re hoping we can get more than the £25m that is apparently what he’s been told he can leave for.
Bournemouth had Kepa on loan from us last season and he did well, but he’s now moved to Arsenal to be their backup. It looks like that could stand to benefit us, if Andoni Iraola’s team do end up signing Petrovic.
