Unfortunately, former Philadelphia Phillies fan favorite Rhys Hoskins is dealing with another injury, as the Milwaukee Brewers have placed him on the IL with a thumb sprain.
It remains uncertain when Hoskins will return for the Brewers, but it's possible that he could have played one of his last games with the organization regardless.
Some believe he could be traded, and when looking at a potential team for him, Boston.com recently linked him to the Boston Red Sox.
“Hoskins is another player whose team’s performance over the next few weeks might dictate whether he’s moved. The Brewers are 50-40 and hold one of the three NL Wild Card spots, seemingly making it unlikely that they’d want to trade any notable contributor on their big league roster. Unfortunately, former Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins is dealing with another injury, as the Milwaukee Brewers have placed him on the IL with a left thumb sprain.
“But Hoskins has an $18 million mutual option for next season that would cost the Brewers $4 million if there’s a buyout. The Athletic‘s Jim Bowden recently mentioned that cost could incentivize Milwaukee to trade Hoskins, even if they’re competing for a playoff spot,” they wrote.
The Red Sox have had many question marks at the first base position over the past few months, especially after Triston Casas went down with an injury.
It’s unknown if they'd be willing to add someone like Hoskins and hope that he figures things out, as he isn't necessarily having the best year with his .242 batting average and just 12 home runs in 269 at-bats, but he's proven, mainly during his time in Philadelphia, that he can swing the bat at a high level.
