Alabama running back Jam Miller suffered an injury in the Crimson Tide’s second and final scrimmage of the preseason on Saturday, head coach Kalen DeBoer announced on Sunday.

“Jam Miller suffered an upper-body injury in Saturday’s scrimmage and went in for a procedure on Saturday evening,” DeBoer said in a statement. “Jam should recover fully with a timetable for his return yet to be determined.”

Miller suffered the injury late in Alabama’s scrimmage at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

A senior and the most experienced running back on the Crimson Tide’s 2025 team, Miller was the only Alabama back who carried the ball 100 or more times, or 10-plus times per game, and finished second on the team in every rushing category behind quarterback Jalen Milroe. The 2024 season was Miller’s most involved, as he ran for 668 yards and seven touchdowns on 145 carries. He also caught 16 passes for 155 yards and one touchdown last fall.

Alabama has five other scholarship running backs on its roster. Richard Young, Daniel Hill and Kevin Riley return, while the Crimson Tide added Louisiana transfer Dre Washington and top 100 high school recruit AK Dear this offseason. Young, Hill and Washington are the most likely to see carries if Miller is forced to miss one or multiple games to start the season.

Alabama’s 2025 campaign is set to kick off on Saturday, August 30, at Florida State.
