The Los Angeles Dodgers have struggled as of late, losing three straight games and now are in a highly competitive race for first place in the NL West with the rival San Diego Padres.
The offense had trouble producing runs in Max Muncy’s absence during the month of July after he landed on the injured list with a left knee bone bruise.
Since his return, the 34-year-old veteran has picked up right where he left off, batting .348 with a 1.401 OPS, four home runs, and nine RBIs over eight appearances.
The two-time All-Star had been dominant before his injury as well, batting .258—his highest mark in ten MLB seasons—and hitting 17 home runs over 89 games for Los Angeles.
Max Muncy Removed From Lineup Card
Ahead of Wednesday’s series finale with the Los Angeles Angels, the Dodgers posted a lineup card with Muncy’s name in it, but moments later he was removed and replaced by Mookie Betts.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced an update on the third baseman’s status pregame via David Vassegh, stating that Muncy had felt some pain on his right side and will be listed as day-to-day moving forward.

Muncy Critical to Dodgers’ Postseason Hopes
This comes at a disappointing time for the Dodgers, who have seen the Padres jump them in the standings for first place in the division after once holding a nine-game lead in early July.
Muncy’s presence rejuvenated a lineup that had been featuring struggling superstars Mookie Betts, Teoscar Hernandez and Freddie Freeman—all having underwhelming months of July.
If Muncy were to miss extended time, it would be a massive blow. He has been a veteran leader in the clubhouse since his arrival in 2018 and has had many memorable postseason moments, helping the team to World Series championships in 2020 and 2024.
Throughout his eight-year tenure with the Dodgers, Muncy has collected 709 hits, 571 walks, 207 home runs, and 584 RBIs.
