It has been an interesting offseason thus far for the Sacramento Kings as they have elected to keep their core together and chase a championship next season instead of beginning a rebuild.

Of course, the Kings missed the playoffs last season after trading De’Aaron Fox at the trade deadline and while many expected that move to be a signal for a potential rebuild, that has not been the case.

Instead, the Kings have kept their star trio of Domantas Sabonis, DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine intact this summer and they have also made some notable additions to their roster.

Sacramento selected Nique Clifford and Maxime Raynaud in the 2025 draft and they then signed Dennis Schroder in free agency to fill their void at the starting point guard position.

While the Kings have tried to upgrade their roster to make a push for a playoff spot next season, more moves could be coming.

Kings predicted to trade Domantas Sabonis to Mavericks

With this in mind, The Sporting News’ Jeremy Kruger recently released a mock trade that would send Sabonis to the Dallas Mavericks in return for four players.

In the trade, the Kings would acquire Daniel Gafford, P.J. Washington, Caleb Martin, Jaden Hardy and a 2029 first-round pick from the Mavericks for Sabonis and Isaac Jones.

For the Kings, moving on from Sabonis would be a tough thing to do after he has starred for them since they landed him from the Indiana Pacers, though this would be a hefty return for the star center that Sacramento may not be able to pass up.

By making this trade, the Kings would acquire a solid center in Gafford who is still only 26 years old and while he may not be the offensive force like Sabonis was, he would be a massive upgrade on the defensive end.

Sacramento would also land an athletic forward in P.J. Washington who they would likely have come off the bench behind Keegan Murray.

Martin and Hardy would also be solid additions to the Kings’ roster as both players would give them more depth off the bench, which is something they desperately need.

While this trade would likely work out well for the Kings, the Mavericks may not want to give up this much in return for Sabonis, though a frontcourt of Sabonis and Anthony Davis would be one of the best in the NBA.
