This College World Series champion has the ability to be an ace in Cleveland's rotation.
The 2025 MLB Draft is this weekend. On July 13 and 14, teams will select the prospects they feel can help their respective franchises take the next step toward building a better and more competitive roster.
Among the teams looking to build a roster that helps the franchise compete for the World Series is the Cleveland Guardians. Cleveland holds the No. 27 overall pick in this year’s draft.
Keith Law of The Athletic released his latest MLB mock draft of the first 28 picks in this year’s draft. With the 27th pick in the draft, Law has the Guardians taking LSU starting pitcher Anthony Eyanson.
“Eyanson has the pitch shapes/data that Cleveland especially likes, and he’s one of the youngest college players in the class, which has long factored heavily into the Guardians’ draft model,” Law said.
Eyanson just helped the Tigers win their second College World Series Championship in the past three seasons. During the 2025 season, Eyanson held a record of 12-2 in 20 starts with an ERA of 3.00 in 108 innings pitched. In his career in college, Eyanson finished with a record of 20-5 and a 3.21 ERA in 219 innings pitched between his two years at UC San Diego and his lone season in Baton Rouge.
Given how he does in the minor leagues, Eyanson could see a spot in Cleveland’s rotation sooner rather than later if his development goes well. The Guardians are looking to pair its bullpen strength with starters who can throw solid outings on a consistent basis. If Cleveland decides to draft in this direction, it could lead to a strengthened starting rotation.
