UCLA head coach DeShaun Foster wrapped up the Bruins' time in Costa Mesa with a final media session before the team returns to Westwood next week.
COSTA MESA, Calif. — DeShaun Foster and his UCLA squad’s time offsite is coming to an end. The Bruins have spent the last few weeks down in Orange County training offsite while the practice field back in Westwood gets a refresh.
It has been an important time for the team to develop and improve ahead of the season. However, Foster has been clear that another big goal of his was bringing this year’s group closer together.
“I really wanted to use this time to just kind of get away as a group, losing as many people as I lost last season…and bringing in a whole new team,” he said before Saturday’s practice.
The Bruins wrapped up their time in Costa Mesa on Saturday. The attention will soon turn back to Westwood and the season opener against Utah at the Rose Bowl. The final week of training camp will feature an open public walkthrough at UCLA’s home stadium.
Next weekend’s Saturday practice will allow fans the opportunity to see the new-look Bruins for the first time. The specifics for the format are being ironed out, but it will allow the players the chance to get acclimated to the venue ahead of the opener.
“Just kind of like a mock game. Just to go through the whole logistics of what a game day would look like. Like I said before, a lot of new faces. Just want them to kind of treat it how we treated an away stadium that we were going to (last season), making sure that they have been in there and it’s not, ‘Ah, shoot, it’s the Rose Bowl.’”
Saturday’s media session allowed Foster to reflect on how his group has performed over the last few weeks. It also gave him the opportunity to provide updates on the progress of multiple players who the Bruins want to see contribute this year.
