The Cardinals are changing the order of their starting rotation so that Sonny Gray can pitch twice before the All-Star Break.

It may not be the rotation news many Cardinals' fans were hoping for, but St. Louis is making a tweak to its rotation ahead of a three-game series with the Nationals.
Sonny Gray will now start tonight's series opener vs Washington. Andre Pallante, who was originally supposed to start tonight, has been bumped back to Wednesday night's game.
Gray hasn't pitched since last Wednesday in Pittsburgh, so he's still had five days of rest ahead of tonight's start. The reason for Gray being moved up a day is so that he can start Sunday's game against the Braves, which is the team's final game before the All-Star Break.
Pallante, who threw seven scoreless innings last time out, will be pitching on seven days of rest. Miles Mikolas remains as the starter for Thursday's series finale. Mikolas may very well be pitching for his spot on the roster, as he's allowed a combined 14 runs in his last two starts, including allowing six home runs against the Cubs last Friday.
If the Cardinals were to stick to their current rotation for the series against the Braves this weekend, Matthew Liberatore would pitch Friday, Erick Fedde would pitch Saturday, and Gray would go on Sunday. According to Katie Woo of The Athletic, however, the rotation for this coming weekend is still to be determined.
Michael McGreevy, who has made four appearances with the Cardinals this year, is eligible to be recalled from Memphis on Thursday. McGreevy last pitched on Sunday, meaning he'd be ready to go if called upon for a start against the Braves this weekend.

Vs WSH
Tues - RHP Sonny Gray
Wed - RHP Andre Pallante
Thurs - RHP Miles Mikolas
Gray would be on turn for Sun vs ATL then. Liberatore on 5-day rest for Fri. McGreevy candidate vs ATL.
In all likelihood, Matthew Liberatore will be the starter on Friday, leaving the Cardinals to decide between Fedde and McGreevy for Saturday's game.
Fedde failed to pitch out of the second inning on Sunday night against the Cubs. He allowed seven runs in each of his two prior starts and now has a 6.54 ERA over his last seven games.
Acquired via trade last year, the Cardinals are paying Fedde $7.5 million in 2025. He is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.
