Elite wide receiver choosing Oregon, Texas or USC on Tuesday
It's decision day for Panther Creek (Texas) four-star wide receiver Jalen Lott.
The 6-foot, 176-pound pass-catcher, rated the nation's No. 49 overall prospect and No. 5 athlete, is formally down to a final five of Georgia, LSU, Oregon, Texas and USC, but most expect that only the latter three are truly in the mix.
Oregon. Texas. USC.
MORE: Oregon Ducks have 2 silent commitments
Lott visited them on back-to-back-to-back weekends in June - with Dan Lanning's program getting the final visit.
For some time, the battle has been primarily viewed as a head-to-head clash between the Ducks and Trojans, but the Longhorns are always scary for top in-state prospects in the NIL era.
When Texas fully flips the switch, it has pulled off a few shockers.
Still, Oregon has largely been viewed as the favorite, especially after the Trojans landed elite playmaker Ethan "Boobie" Feaster on July 4th.
There's also this: it is widely accepted that the Ducks are sitting on two yet-to-be-announced commitments.
It would sure make sense if Lott was one of the pledges.
And that would be a massive victory for the Ducks.
The Texas product accumulated 85 receptions for 1,111 yards and 16 touchdowns as a junior in football.
In track and field, Lott competed at the summer of 2024 USATF National Junior Olympics, where he finished first in the long jump and third in the high jump.
Less than a month ago, Oregon had barely accumulated a top-50 recruiting class.
But in the past few weeks, the Ducks have climbed to No. 14 nationally, thanks to a few headline-grabbing additions, including five-star offensive tackle Immanuel Iheanacho, Elite 11 quarterback Bryson Beaver, high-end four-star offensive lineman Tommy Tofi and versatile four-star defensive back Devin Jackson.
That group would leap to No. 9 if Lott were to join the fold, eclipsing Penn State, Texas, Florida State, LSU and Clemson in the process.
Here's what 247Sports hd to say about Lott as a prospect:
"Highly productive receiver who could potentially play either side of the ball in the long run. Excels as a linear athlete thanks to sudden acceleration and a long stride that fosters top-end speed verified on the track. Elite high and long jumper with statewide and Junior Olympics hardware."
"Transferred prior to junior season and Fall 2024 saw explosion in production. Knows how to protect his body from unnecessary shots while giving his QB a reasonable target. Displays high-pointing acumen, ball-tracking skill, hands-catching consistency, and plucking dexterity. Ideally would see more open-field elusiveness; often relies on slippery tendon strength to extend plays. More experienced on offense, so full-time move to the secondary would require a learning curve physically and technically."
"Nevertheless, strong football/athletic pedigree; comes from a family of athletes. Projects to the high-major level as a potential impact player who could develop into a coveted NFL Draft prospect."
