The Atlanta Braves have won three straight games yet still find themselves 16 games under .500 with a record of 51–67. Atlanta entered the season with expectations of making a deep postseason run but now seems destined to miss the playoffs for the first time in seven years.

The team has been impacted greatly by injuries, most notably Ronald Acuna Jr., who has been on a second injured list stint since July 30 after suffering a Grade 1 right calf strain.

Acuna has only appeared in 55 games in 2025, missing the first two months of the season while recovering from his second ACL tear, which he suffered last year.

The 27-year-old is one of the game’s brightest stars, and he made that clear when healthy, posting a .306 batting average and 1.005 OPS—numbers comparable to his historic MVP season in 2023.

Brian Snitker Provides Ronald Acuna Jr. Update

Ahead of the series against the New York Mets, Acuna had been progressing well, showing no signs of the calf strain and partaking in batting practice and outfield drills.

Before Tuesday’s game, manager Brian Snitker provided an update on the outfield star’s status, announcing that Acuna would not require a rehab assignment and his activation could possibly come as soon as Thursday.

“Soon. Snitker said he won’t need a rehab assignment, and he’s here working out and doing everything. Won’t be tomorrow, though, according to Snitker,” wrote David O’Brien of The Athletic.

Acuna Hoping to Finish 2025 Strong After Another Injury-Shortened Season

Although Atlanta’s season is most likely over barring a miraculous turnaround, Acuna proving that he can return and be a contributor would be a positive sign for the team’s future, as he has appeared in 75% of the Braves’ regular-season games just twice over his seven-year career.

His numbers and accolades when available have been incredible, posting a career .290 batting average, .911 OPS, 179 home runs, and 200 stolen bases, while also collecting the 2018 NL Rookie of the Year Award and five All-Star selections.
