Tory Pittman is staying home.

The Omaha (Neb.) Central four-star defensive back held offers from around the country including USC, LSU and others. There were several teams trying to get Pittman on campus this fall like Tennessee, Notre Dame and Oregon.

But in the end, staying home and joining coach Matt Rhule’s program was the right move for him.

“They saw my potential at an early age in 8th grade when they first offered me,” Pittman said. So, just building that relationship but from there until now and it’s home.”

One thing that always helped Nebraska in this recruitment was the relationships between Pittman and the defensive staff. He’s built a close bond with coach Addison Williams.

“Oh yeah, building that relationship with him for sure played a big role,” Pittman said.

“I kept in contact with him, probably the most over anybody. He’s a great coach and good to talk to.”

He now joins elite quarterback Trae Taylor as part of Nebraska’s 2027 recruiting class. Pittman is ready to be part of a recruiting duo to bring talent to Lincoln. The Huskers see Pittman playing primarily safety. But they also know he can come down in the box and make tackles. The team also thinks he could play a little receiver.

“Receiver might be my favorite position,” Pittman said. “If they give me a chance, I’ll definitely take it.”

Now that the Omaha native has announced his decision to stay home he’s got a message for Husker Nation.

“It means a lot to stay home and play for Nebraska,” Pittman said.

“It gives me the opportunity to put Nebraska on the map. Get Nebraska more out there and get back to what Nebraska used to be.”

Nebraska is off to an elite start for the 2027 recruiting class with Taylor and Pittman. The program is also in on several more blue-chippers for the cycle. That includes five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews and five-star tight end Ahmad Hudson.
