The Texas Rangers are looking to return to the postseason in 2025 for the first time since their 2023 World Series run.
Texas is 61–59 and has word to do in pursuit of that goal. While the pitching staff has the best ERA in the majors, the run production has let them down. The Rangers average just 4.1 runs per game, which is 23rd.
A large part of the team’s underperformance has been Adolis Garcia, who broke out in 2021 but has been unable to rediscover that form. In 115 games for Texas this season, Garcia has a .226 batting average and a .660 OPS (a career low) while hitting 16 home runs.
Garcia has struggled over the past month, playing in 23 games and batting .196 with a .577 OPS and three home runs.
Evan Carter Injury Update
Ahead of Tuesday’s game, the Rangers announced Evan Carter was joining Double-A Frisco on a rehab assignment. He was starting the assignment as the designated hitter. Carter was placed on the 10-day injured list in early August due to back spasms. It is the second occurrence of the issue for him this season.

Carter is expected to bat 2nd and serve as Frisco's designated hitter tonight vs. Midland at Riders Field (beg. 7:05 p.m. CT).
Adolis Garcia’s Struggles Raising Questions About Everyday Role
With Carter nearing a return to the Rangers, the outfield is going to get crowded with Garcia, Wyatt Langford and Josh Smith firmly in place.
Both Smith and Langford have been incredible for Texas this year, which potentially forces the Rangers to make a decision on Garcia’s role. How long can they give the two-time All-Star extended opportunities without hindering their push to make the postseason?
Garcia’s previous excellence is the sole reason he has remained in the everyday lineup. The 32-year-old made his MLB debut in 2018 and his Texas debut in 2020, but he played in only 24 games, preserving his rookie status. That paid off in his breakout season of 2021: He earned his first All-Star selection and finished fourth in AL Rookie of the Year voting. In 2023, he received a second All-Star nod, collected his first Gold Glove Award and received ALCS MVP honors on the way to a World Series championship.
