Gonzalo Garcia has become one of the standout performers for Real Madrid at the FIFA Club World Cup.
The academy forward has cemented his place in the starting XI under Xabi Alonso and already has four goals in five matches.
At this point, it seems unthinkable that he would not remain at Real Madrid. But before the tournament, the outlook was very different.
Getafe president reveals agreement with Gonzalo
Indeed, after enjoying a successful campaign with Castilla, during which he scored a lot of goals, Gonzalo was tipped for an exit before the Club World Cup began.
In fact, Getafe president Angel Torres has sensationally revealed that an agreement was in place with both Real Madrid and Gonzalo for the striker to join the club if he did not remain in the first team at the Bernabeu this season.
Torres made the comments during the unveiling of Getafe’s new kits for the 2025/26 campaign.
“With Gonzalo we have an agreement. There was a commitment that as long as he didn’t stay at Real Madrid he could come,” said Torres, as quoted by AS.

“This is an agreement from a month and a half ago with both the club and the agent, but the way the kid is doing… I have hope, if Gonzalito comes it would be a good help.”
However, sources close to Gonzalo told AS that no agreement was ever reached for the player to join Getafe this season.
Conversations did take place with the Madrid-based club, but both sides agreed to revisit the matter after the conclusion of the Club World Cup in order to assess the situation and the market.
And, considering how he has exploded at the Club World Cup, Real Madrid have ruled out the possibility of a departure, with the 21-year-old expected to have a first-team spot for the new season.
Meanwhile, Torres also confirmed that Getafe are working to sign Victor Munoz and Mario Martin from Real Madrid, revealing:
“We have secured Víctor Munoz but he is at the World Cup. And another one, who played last year in Real Valladolid.”
