Sunderland have completed the signing of Mozambique international Reinildo Mandava from Atlético Madrid on a two-year deal.
The experienced left-back joins after two-and-a-half seasons in the Spanish capital, where he made 99 appearances in all competitions. He featured 32 times last season under Diego Simeone, including outings in both LaLiga and the Champions League.
Reinildo’s final appearance for Atlético came last month, lining up against Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup. Following his involvement in the tournament, the 30-year-old was granted an extended summer break and will link up with his new teammates on Wearside later this month.
The former Lille defender completed his medical and finalised the move while still in Madrid.
At Sunderland, Reinildo is expected to provide competition for Dennis Cirkin at left-back, though his versatility means he can also operate further forward or cover at centre-half if required.
Speaking to the club's media team, Mandava said: “It is a dream come true because it has always been my ambition to play in the Premier League - and I can’t wait to play for an historic club like Sunderland.
I’m excited to meet the team, to fight, and to give everything for the Club. I want to help, to give power to my team-mates, and transmit my experience in the dressing room. Above all else, I want to make people happy and I will give everything to make that happen.”
