Paige Bueckers rewrote WNBA history.
Paige Bueckers Ends Caitlin Clark’s Solo Reign in WNBA History Books originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings found themselves on the wrong end of an embarrassing blowout loss on Monday night. This came in the form of a 102-72 defeat at the hands of the Phoenix Mercury, which saw the Wings suffer their first loss in three games.
Bueckers had a forgettable evening against Phoenix with 11 points on 3-of-11 shooting, two rebounds, three assists, a block and one triple in 24 minutes of action.
Despite her rather pedestrian performance, however, Bueckers was still able to rewrite the history books. Monday's contest was the 15th WNBA game of her career, and it allowed her to enter the history books alongside Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark.
According to Polymarket Hoops on X, Bueckers has officially ended Clark's solo reign as the only WNBA player to average at least 15 points and five assists in her first 15 games. As of Monday, Clark will need to share this record with Bueckers.
In her first 15 games last season, Clark put up 16.1 points and 6.2 assists. Bueckers, on the other hand, is currently averaging 18.2 points and 5.5 dimes.
Incidentally, these two stars will potentially face off for the first time at the WNBA level on Sunday as the Fever host the Wings at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Clark, however, has missed five straight games for Indiana due to a lingering groin injury, and her status for the Wings game remains uncertain at this point.
The reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year also missed the Fever-Wings game on June 27 because of her groin issue, which is why fans are hoping that she is able to recover in time for that highly anticipated matchup against Bueckers and the Wings.
