Romania Head Coach Warns New Inter Milan Boss Of The Size Of The Challenge: “Won’t Have An Easy Task”

Mircea Lucescu has warned his compatriot Cristian Chivu of the size of the task awaiting him at Inter Milan.

Speaking to Romanian broadcaster Digisport via FCInterNews, the 79-year-old offered his assessment of the matter.

Inter Milan parted ways with Simone Inzaghi after four years at the end of last season.

Despite his vast success at San Siro, the ex-Lazio coach turned his back on the Nerazzurri for Al-Hilal.

Indeed, Inzaghi decided to leave Serie A after his first trophyless season at Inter and embrace the riches of Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, Inter had tried to hire Cesc Fabregas but to no avail.

Though Beppe Marotta made a valiant attempt to sign the Spaniard, he chose to stay loyal to Como.

Therefore, Inter appointed Cristian Chivu as Inzaghi’s successor on the eve of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Unfortunately, the first experience wasn’t positive as Fluminense beat Inter in the round of 16.

Lucescu spent one season at Inter in 1998/99. However, after failing to win a trophy, he left the club to take over Rapid Bucuresti.

Hopefully, Chivu will have better luck and steer the Nerazzurri back to success.

But it won’t be easy.

“It’s a great thing for us Romanians and for his career,” Lucescu said. “Hopefully, Romanian players will come after him as well.

“He is very well known there, even though the task won’t be easy. He used to coach Parma, which is a smaller team.

“Inter is a team of great value. We hope he finds inspiration and makes the right choices, even though Inter is an aging team.

“We’ll see. They started with a 5-0 loss in the final against PSG; it won’t be easy.

“However, I’m convinced that a whole generation of young people will start supporting Inter.”
