The Detroit Tigers’ offense has been productive all season. It averages 4.8 runs per game (eighth in the majors), which has contributed to the team leading the AL Central with a 68–51 mark.
A huge reason for the Tigers’ sustained offensive success has been Spencer Torkelson, who was the first pick in the 2020 draft.
In his fourth season in the big leagues, the 25-year-old first baseman has finally broken out after struggling last year. As a result, he has secured a place in the heart of Detroit’s batting order.
Over 113 games in 2025, he’s batting .241 with an .811 OPS — both career highs — along with 25 home runs and 65 RBIs.
Spencer Torkelson Makes Tigers History
On Sunday, Torkelson went 1-for-3 with a walk to help Detroit defeat the Los Angeles Angels 9–5 and take the series.
Before Monday’s series opener against the Chicago White Sox, the Tigers announced Torkelson had etched his name into the franchise record books. He is the first Tiger to record a pair of 25-home run seasons in a three-year span since franchise legends Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez in the 2014-2016 window.
The team wrote, "Spencer Torkelson is first Tiger to record a pair of 25-homer seasons in a three-year span since Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez (both in 2014 + 2016)."

Detroit’s Patience With Torkelson Pays Off in 2025
With Detroit looking to make back-to-back postseason trips, Torkelson will seek to make a much larger contribution than last, when he hit .190 with four hits and one RBI in seven playoff games.
Torkelson debuted in 2022 and struggled, but seemingly broke out in 2023 with 31 home runs with a .758 OPS. He took a step back in 2024. He appeared in 92 games and was sent back to the minor leagues because of his struggles at the plate.
Detroit hopes Torkelson’s resurgent season in 2025 can carry into 2026, and he can be an integral part of the franchise’s long-term success. The right-handed slugger will not enter unrestricted free agency until after the 2028 season.
