Felix Ojo shocked the college football world by choosing to play for the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Friday. Up until Thursday night, the Class of 2026 five-star offensive tackle was said to be deciding between the Texas Longhorns and Ohio State Buckeyes.

On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported afterward that Ojo is joining Joey McGuire’s program on a fully guaranteed three-year, $5.1 million deal “believed to be one of the largest guaranteed deals in CFB history.” With the Red Raiders coming out of the woodwork to overtake Ojo’s commitment, that money was sure to be a hot-button topic.

Instances in which Texas Tech goes toe-to-toe and wins against Texas on the recruiting trail are few and far between. Those who support Steve Sarkisian’s crew will point to that pact as the reason they lost out on Ojo. One of Ojo’s friends, three-star offensive lineman Khalil Sanogo, believes the Longhorns are the pot calling the kettle black.

“I normally don’t display my thoughts on this app but watching Texas fans whine about NIL poaching is very ironic to say the least,” Sanogo wrote Friday on X.

The Houston Chronicle’s Kirk Bohls claimed in May that Texas is planning to spend between $35 million and $40 million on their roster for the upcoming season. The Longhorns, who have a wide support base, are one of the sport’s powers, having reached back-to-back College Football Playoff semifinals.

Meanwhile, Sanogo committed to the Arizona Wildcats on Sunday. According to 247Sports, he had 15 total offers, including those extended by Power Four programs California, Houston, Kansas State and North Carolina.
