The traditional "Dallas" word mark has graced the front of the usual white or blue uniforms since the early 2000s and have become a representation for some of the best basketball in franchise history. It witnessed practically the entire career of team icon Dirk Nowitzki, the entire Mavs career of an all-time talent in Luka Doncic, and its on pace to once again extend into the Cooper Flagg era as he approaches his rookie season. If the Mavs are serious about completely ridding the sour taste left in the mouths of MFFLs after the unholy trade of a franchise legend, the organization needs to use the new period with Flagg to alter the visual identity, so fans won't get Dirk or Luka stuck in their minds when seeing those unchanged jerseys.

I'm likely not the first person to say that the Dallas Mavericks need a rebrand.

Maybe not a logo redesign, but at least a fresh set of uniform combinations. That's all we ask.
The NBA has experimented with the "City" and "Classic Edition" themed kits for teams to bring some new flavor to their wardrobe rotation, but unfortunately the Mavericks haven't always had the best luck when it comes to these limited editions striking fans, at least until recently.
The unis that pay tribute to Fort Worth blues culture were a hit, but Dallas' remarkable run to the NBA Finals that season helped in the jersey appreciation.

Some uniforms in the last decade have featured hints of the iconic green of the 80s and 90s uniforms, made famous by legends like Rolando Blackman, Brad Davis and Mark Maguirre. That touch of green always plays well as the color is often so wrongfully ignored in traditional Mavs jerseys this age.
But there have also been some bad special edition looks ... like the chaotic neon grafiti design with in-your-face colors or the gold-accented uniforms that tried to convey sleek minimalism. We're not a fan.

If you're clamoring for more traditional green in this year's uniform set, you're not alone ... just please no neon.
Basketball Jersey Archive, who is well indebted in jersey culture and history, details how this year's City Edition resorts back to a non-traditional base that doesn't quite pop off the court like fans would like. It's another shot at trying to make an alternate color like charcoal gray work. It doesn't.
Nonetheless, it will reportedly be in rotation for the Mavs' 2025-26 season upcoming as the City Edition.
But here comes the better news...
There was a recent leak that depicted green Mavericks shorts for this year's Classic Edition, meaning we could be on our way to bringing back the all-green uniforms for the first time since the 2015-16 season.
Artist Casey Vitelli designed a mock-up of what this might look like, responding to a photo of the allegedly leaked shorts.
A potential look at next season's "Classic Edition" jersey for the Mavericks.

Are the Mavs bringing back the green classic?
In the previous version of this classic worn, the regular Nike swoosh was used, instead of the Futura logo.

Here is another report confirming that the hardwood throwbacks will be added to this year's rotation:

It will be a sight for sore eyes to watch the Mavs dressed in their iconic green.
Now it's time to officially usher in the new era by permanently implementing this into the color palette.
We're long overdue for something new, and this could be the perfect opportunity to make a lasting change.
