Ted Karras tells Shemar Stewart to “be smarter” after he bumped Joe Burrow in practice

The rookie pass rusher still has a lot to learn.

Shemar Stewart is still making headlines, even though his holdout has ended.

After a strong preseason debut, the rookie pass rusher started a scuffle at practice when he bumped the franchise himself, Joe Burrow.

When asked about the incident, veteran center Ted Karras said in reference to Stewart, “Just be smarter!”

He called the 21-year-old a great player but reinforced the importance of protecting Burrow. “That’s our hopes and dreams right there,” Karras said.

Ever the leader, Karras held his unit accountable as well. “We gotta be better up front,” he said. “That’s on us.”

While Burrow must be protected at all costs, it is nice seeing Stewart showing passion and fire so early.

He was able to get pressure rather easily on the Philadelphia Eagles at times in his first NFL appearance, though he seemed out of place on other plays.
