San Diego Padres superstar Manny Machado reached 2,000 career hits with a single Monday night at home.
With a simple flick of the bat, Manny Machado delivered a career-milestone hit in the fourth inning for the San Diego Padres Monday night.
Machado became the 297th player in Major League Baseball history to record 2,000 hits. He is the fifth active member of the club, joining Freddie Freeman, Jose Altuve, Andrew McCutchen and Paul Goldschmidt.

In the first inning, Machado moved one step closer to the milestone with his 1,999th hit as he also recorded a single in the opening inning.

Machado joins some exclusive company, as just 11 of those with 2,000 hits have also recorded 350 home runs before turning 32 years of age. That group includes the likes of Alex Rodriguez, Albert Pujols, Lou Gehrig, Hank Aaron and Mickey Mantle.

Quite a list.
After spending the first seven years of his career with the Baltimore Orioles where he was selected No. 3 overall in 2010, Machado spent time with the Los Angeles Dodgers before winding up in San Diego in 2019. He is a seven-time All-Star selection, including this year.
Twice before Machado has been named all-MLB first team in 2020 and 2022, along with a second team selection last season.
