The Milwaukee Brewers’ hot streak shows no signs of slowing down. On Tuesday night, they hammered the Pittsburgh Pirates 14-0, extending their winning run to 11 games and leaving ace Paul Skenes with one of his roughest outings of the year.

Milwaukee stays red-hot, Skenes shelled in rare off night

Skenes came in as one of the most dominant arms in baseball, but Milwaukee got to him early. Sal Frelick opened the game with a home run, ending Skenes’ streak of 24 consecutive starts without allowing a first-inning run. That streak was the second-longest to start a season in MLB history.

Brewers blast Pirates, close in on franchise’s All-Time win mark

The Brewers went on to launch five home runs in total, with Brice Turang and Andrew Vaughn continuing their torrid August pace. Vaughn, who joined the club in July after a poor first half with the White Sox, has now driven in 32 runs in just over a month.

A historic pace

This is Milwaukee’s second 11-game win streak of the season, matching a franchise feat not seen since 1987. Only two other clubs since World War II have managed multiple runs of at least 11 wins in the same season: the 1954 Cleveland Indians and the 2015 Toronto Blue Jays.

The Brewers have been crushing the ball in August, leading the majors in homers, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage. Their .323 team batting average this month is tied with Toronto for the league’s best.

But it hasn’t just been the bats. Milwaukee’s rotation has posted a 3.09 ERA during the streak, with starters allowing one run or fewer in five games. Freddy Peralta kept that trend alive Tuesday with six scoreless innings against Pittsburgh.

One away from burgers and history

A win on Wednesday would mark 12 straight victories, setting up a chance to tie the franchise record of 13 set to start the 1987 season. It would also trigger a local tradition: George Webb diners have promised free hamburgers if the Brewers win 12 in a row, a promotion that has only been fulfilled twice before, in 1987 and 2018.
