Manchester City have reached an agreement on personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma (L’Equipe)

The Cityzens want to bring him to the Etihad Stadium this summer.

Man City struggled last term between the sticks with Ederson performing below par and back-up shot-stopper Stefan Ortega suffering a sharp decline.

Signing a new goalkeeper was a priority for Man City this summer, and they went all out to acquire James Trafford from Burnley.

However, Man City are not done yet as they bid to give manager Pep Guardiola the tools to compete on multiple fronts next season.

City have agreed personal terms with Donnarumma and are waiting for Ederson to leave before they can ramp up talks with PSG.

The Italy international (74 caps) announced that he would be leaving the Champions League winners after PSG manager Luis Enrique omitted him from the Super Cup squad.

Enrique hailed the Man City target as one of the best in his position but stood by his decision to axe him from the squad, with Lucas Chevalier set to take the starting berth.

It is worth noting that Pep Guardiola’s system at Man City thrives on goalkeepers who can act as an extra outfield player, breaking lines with precise passes.

However, Donnarumma is not great with his feet, which could prove a problem at Man City.

His struggles to build play from the back are well-documented, with the costly 2022 error against Real Madrid still fresh in memory for many.

Opponents often press him aggressively, knowing he can be rushed into mistakes. Premier League opponents will capitalise on that weakness when they face Man City.

Besides, at 6ft6ins, he has the frame to dominate his box but can lack the assertiveness and sweeper-keeper instincts of modern greats like Ederson or Manuel Neuer.

In a City side, where composure and distribution are non-negotiable, such limitations could be significant.
