The three-star wide receiver for Heritage Hills is bound for Oklahoma.

LINCOLN CITY, Ind. — Tyler Ruxer is bound for the Southeastern Conference.

The three-star wide receiver committed to Oklahoma on July 7 during a ceremony at the Heritage Hills High School auditorium. Ruxer chose the Sooners among five finalists that included Purdue, Northwestern, Duke and West Virginia.

Ruxer received a scholarship offer from Oklahoma in May and took an official visit on June 6.

Considered one of the top college prospects in Indiana, the rising senior endured a quick transformation this spring. Ruxer didn't receive his first Power Four offer until March — he is now tabbed as the No. 2 prospect in the state. The 6-4 wide receiver caught 43 passes for 893 yards and 12 touchdowns last season for the Class 3A state champions.

Gibson Southern’s Jake Richter (16) tackles Heritage Hills' Tyler Ruxer (8) as the Gibson Southern Titans play the Heritage Hills Patriots Friday, Oct. 25, 2024.

Ruxer is projected to play a version of tight end at the Power Four level, primarily going out wide in the slot. At 6-4 and 220 pounds, he certainly has the frame and skill to make the necessary adjustment. Ruxer had 16 catches and four touchdowns in the playoffs last season — he hauled in one grab for 41 yards against Fort Wayne Luers in the 3A state championship at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Heritage Hills is projected to be among the Class 4A favorites this fall. Among the reasons why is Ruxer, who also had 30 tackles and two interceptions on defense as a junior. Ruxer has progressed throughout his career into one of the top athletes in Southern Indiana. He caught 27 passes for 545 yards and nine touchdowns as a sophomore.

The Patriots went 14-1 last season but moved up due to the success factor.
