If the Los Angeles Dodgers have an opportunity to make a blockbuster deal at the deadline, nobody would be surprised to see them do it.

However, with the many injuries they've dealt with on the mound, it feels certain that the Dodgers won't go out and trade a starter.

Of course, anything is possible, but trading somebody like Dustin May doesn't make much sense.

Despite that, Zachary Howell recently proposed that they trade him to a National League West rival, the Colorado Rockies, for Ryan McMahon.

“The talent of Los Angeles' pitching staff makes May expendable once Snell and Glasnow return. Making the most of him in their push for back-to-back titles could push them over the top. Regardless of what the Dodgers do at the deadline, they will still be one of the favorites to take home the 2025 World Series,” he wrote.

McMahon is a decent player, but it's tough to argue that May doesn't have more value for what the Dodgers need.

While McMahon would fill an area of need, given the Dodgers could use somebody at their base, especially after Max Muncy’s injury and the uncertainty around his return, May has thrown the second-most innings for the Dodgers this season with 88.2.

The right-hander hasn’t been great with a 4.52 ERA, but there have been parts throughout the year when he's been dominant.

He allowed 17 earned runs in 27.0 innings in June, which wasn't his best showing, but he bounced back on July 3 with a seven-inning outing, allowing just two earned runs against the Chicago White Sox.

May has proven to have above-average stuff, so keeping him in town should be something the Dodgers are looking to do.
