The final major of the year, The Open Championship, is set to tee off later this month at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland. With golf’s elite preparing for links conditions, two-time major champion Collin Morikawa is making a bold change as he eyes a return to the winner’s circle.

Morikawa, a $41 million PGA Tour star and 2021 Open champion, has announced he will team up with legendary caddie Billy Foster for The Open, as well as this week’s Genesis Scottish Open. The move follows his recent split with Joe Greiner, an association that lasted just five events. Greiner, who previously worked with Max Homa, joined Morikawa after his longtime partnership with J.J. Jakovac ended in April. However, their chemistry didn’t click.

“Just because two people are great at what they do doesn’t mean we’re going to be great together,” Morikawa said, offering an honest explanation for the change.

For now, Morikawa is banking on Foster’s unmatched experience. The 59-year-old Yorkshireman has caddied for greats like Seve Ballesteros, Darren Clarke and Lee Westwood. He recently parted ways with Matt Fitzpatrick in March after a successful six-year run.

Foster had intended to reduce his schedule this year, but the call from Morikawa was too compelling to pass up. “The frequent trips across the Atlantic are catching up with me,” Foster previously admitted, suggesting this will only be a short-term stint.

Before this pairing, Morikawa finished tied for eighth at the Rocket Classic with friend KK Limbhasut on the bag. With his last win dating back to the 2023 ZOZO Championship, Morikawa is hoping the veteran guidance of Foster will spark something special.

While this may only be a two-week collaboration, all eyes will be on how this duo performs on golf’s grandest stage.
