Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell is reportedly pushing hard for the front office to sign Kyle Tucker to a long-term extension.

There's no debating that Kyle Tucker will eventually get a massive contract in free agency. The only question that remains is whether the Chicago Cubs will give him that deal or not.
Chicago, currently playing well, perhaps better than they have over much of the past few years, should understand what Tucker brings to the lineup. The left-handed hitting outfielder currently has a 4.0 WAR, 17 home runs, 52 RBIs, 21 stolen bases, and an OPS+ of 158.
There's a strong argument to be made that Tucker has been one of the better five hitters in baseball this season, and it's also fair to suggest that this might be the best full season of his big league career if it continues.
However, until the Cubs put their money where their mouth is, it's impossible to get a feel for what could happen. Tucker is expected to get $500 to $600 million, and rightfully so.
When speaking to reporters about what he's done in the first half, skipper Craig Counsell essentially begged the team to re-sign him, having nothing but praise for his four-time All-Star selection.
“There were tremendous expectations. It’s a contract year in a new place and he’s exceeded expectations. It’s just fun to watch the guy take at-bats,” per ESPN.
It isn’t easy going to a new team and playing at the level Tucker has. Factor that in with him playing in Chicago, and that makes things even more difficult.
The Cubs have a large fan base, one that expects the most from their players.
Tucker has done nothing but provide for this lineup, and should continue to do so for the next decade if Chicago makes the right moves.
