The Minnesota Timberwolves head into the NBA 2K26 Summer League with a talented roster of young players hungry to prove themselves. Rob Dillingham is one of four players on the team's Summer League roster who already appeared on the team's main stage in games last season.
Joining him from that group that logged minutes for Minnesota last season are Terrence Shannon Jr., Jaylen Clark, and Leonard Miller. Although all four guys saw time for the Wolves, they're still aware of the need to prove they deserve minutes and possibly significant roles in the upcoming season.
And it also means there are 10 other players on the roster looking to impress the coaching staff in Las Vegas.
And one of those young players seems to have already surprised the second-year guard Dillingham, as he revealed in his recent remarks to the media at a Summer League practice session.
"The rookie. The rookie's cold. Joan's solid. I'm not gonna lie. Super solid. I like him,' Dillingham said in the Timberwolves video.
He's referring to the team's first-round pick at last month's NBA Draft, 18-year-old French center Joan Beringer. The pick surprised fans who might've expected the team to draft a different player at that No. 17 spot.
He has limited international basketball experience, but it was enough to wow the Timberwolves' scouts and front office. Beringer played for the Slovenia League Cup champions, Cedevita Olimpija, last season, and averaged 4.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game.
There's an underlying belief that Beringer could eventually become the replacement for fellow French center Rudy Gobert. Beringer's still unpolished, but with enough practice and time on the court, including Summer League games, he could blossom into a "solid" presence for the Timberwolves.
According to NBADraft.net, the rookie stands at 6-foot-10 with a 7-foot-3 wingspan. They indicate he isn't NBA-ready, but his size, defense, athleticism, and potential all rate high for his professional career.
Fans will get a glimpse of Beringer's skills on the court when he, Dillingham, and the rest of the Timberwolves Summer League squad begin playing this week. Their first game is scheduled for Thursday, July 10, in Las Vegas, with ESPN2 televising the matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans.
