Austin Dillon's furious rant at Carson Hocevar sparks fan backlash after chaotic crash at Chicago Cup race.
Austin Dillon Slammed by NASCAR Fans for Reaction to Carson Hocevar's Wild Crash originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Sunday's Grant Park 165 featured a massive eight-car pileup triggered by Carson Hocevar on Lap 3. The Spire Motorsports driver impacted both the side walls exiting Turn 10 while running seventh at the Chicago streets.
Piloting Spire's No.77 Chevrolet, he created a block for the majority of the field. This piled up Brad Keselowski, Todd Gilliland, Daniel Suárez, Riley Herbst and reigning Supercars champion Will Brown on Michigan Avenue, with Austin Dillon being the first one to be collected.
Consequently, Hocevar's massive eight-car pileup led to a fiery reaction from Austin Dillon. The Richard Childress full-timer was using harsh language in the radio chats of his No. 03 ZL1, as shared in an X post.
"Carson Hocevar is the biggest [expletive] in the entire sport," Dillon said. "Wiped out into 10 and just wiped out half the field."
However, his fierce radio comments soon sparked a backlash from the NASCAR fans, with several questioning his credibility and history.
“Austin Dillon, in particular, has no right to criticize. He’s nothing but a useless hack. This was just a racing accident, hardly unusual on street courses," one user commented.
“Does Austin Dillon have any room to talk?” another user asked.
Others pointed to his past incidents.
“Says the guy who intentionally wrecked two cars for a win," one person wrote.
“Wasn’t it a year or two ago when @austindillon3 wrecked from the lead in the final laps of this race? How about that time at Richmond when he wrecked everyone to try and get a win? Or that time he wrecked @Aric_Almirola on the final lap entering turn 3 at the Daytona 500?" said another.

Others pointed out Hocevar’s merits compared to Dillon.
“At least Hocevar isn’t in a ride just because of his Pop Pop, lol," one person stated.
“One of the worst cup drivers riding around in grandpops' money, saying this. Lol, so glad he’s wrecked," another user added.
From what it appears, the hardcore fans aren't much happier with the RCR man - almost as much as he's frustrated over Hocevar. The two Cup Series full-timers will again face off at the Sonoma Raceway on July 13.
