Phillies linked to Pirates $106.75 million 2x All-Star

The Philadelphia Phillies remain one of the top teams in the National League after falling short in the NLDS last year against the New York Mets. At 53-37, they sit at the top of the NL East.

However, this is a team that has some holes to fill. They need help with their bullpen, but also could use an outfield bat.

The Phillies have not gotten much production out of free agent signing Max Kepler, and they will need to find a better solution than to keep playing him on a consistent basis.

Mark Powell of FanSided proposed the idea of Philadelphia targeting Bryan Reynolds.

"Bryan Reynolds has a no-trade list with a number of contenders on it. The Phillies did not make that cut, thankfully, but a number of potential suitors did. Reynolds would not approve a trade to the Mets, Yankees, Dodgers, Padres, Blue Jays or Giants," Powell wrote.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are already well out of contention in the NL Central, sitting at the bottom of the division. Philadelphia will likely look to make a push in the second half of the season and will need reinforcements.

Reynolds is having a down year with Pittsburgh, hitting just .229/.294/.380 with 10 home runs, 45 RBI and a .674 OPS. However, he is a two-time All-Star, and perhaps playing with a contending team will help him rediscover his stroke.

The star outfielder was given an eight-year, $106.75 million contract extension back in 2023 after previously requesting a trade. However, now might be a good time for the Pirates to trade him and bring back something in return.

Reynolds could benefit from playing with a team in the postseason race instead of staying in Pittsburgh.

We'll see if the Phillies give the Pirates a call about him.
