Michigan landed its class of 2027 quarterback commit Sunday afternoon. Elite four-star signal-caller Peter Bourque, the No. 7 passer in the country and No. 86 overall prospect, committed to the Wolverines.
Bourque picked U-M over Penn State, Georgia, Oregon and many others. He piled up an elite offer list over the past couple of years, but Michigan consistently stood out as one of his top schools after the staff extended a scholarship in March.
The Nittany Lions and Wolverines emerged as the main contenders for the 6-4, 195-pound quarterback from Hingham (Mass.) Tabor Academy. Michigan built a lot of momentum with Bourque after he visited in June and, over the past couple of weeks, his timeline accelerated, leading to an early decision.
“It’s a great program,” Bourque told The Wolverineafter Michigan offered this spring. “I’m sure they are at the top for most kids. Michigan competes for national championships. They won two years ago. It meant a lot to get that offer..”
Bourque visited the Wolverines twice last year, stopping by for a camp and then again for a game day. Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Chip Lindsey continued to prioritize the Top 100 passer and brought him in for the March visit before offering. Lindsey visited him at Tabor Academy a couple of months later.
“He’s developed a bunch of great quarterbacks like Drake Maye, and he’s going to develop Bryce Underwood really well,” Bourque said. “I’m looking forward to seeing his offense at Michigan. I think it’ll be impressive. I like Coach Lindsey a lot. He’s awesome.”
He built a strong connection with Lindsey and the rest of Michigan’s program. Bourque visited again in June for the school’s passing academy and left Ann Arbor with a co-MVP award. He originally planned on taking some visits this fall but, as quarterback recruiting timelines around the country sped up, Bourque accelerated his own process.
The top-ranked prospect in Massachusetts is the best prospect in his home state regardless of class, according to MaxPreps. He reclassified from the 2026 class to the 2027 cycle after transferring to Tabor and quickly established himself as one of the nation’s elite quarterback prospects. Bourque led his school to an 8-1 record as a sophomore and took home All-ISL honors.
Bourque is Michigan’s third class of 2027 commit. Three-star interior offensive linemen Tristan Dare and Louis Esposito pledged to the program earlier this year. He could be the program’s fourth-consecutive Top 10 quarterback signee after Bryce Underwood, Brady Smigiel and Jadyn Davis.
