The Phillies are looking for help in their bullpen.
The Philadelphia Phillies have remained one of the National League's top teams in 2025 after losing the NLDS last year to the New York Mets. They are 53-37 and remain at the top of the NL East.
However, their roster has some holes that need to be filled. They are in need of a right-handed bat and some help in the bullpen.
Jose Alvarado was suspended 80 games for PED use, and he is now ineligible to pitch in the postseason, but the bullpen was struggling even before his suspension.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today notes that they are looking into two high-leverage relievers from the Pittsburgh Pirates, but that a right-handed bat is another glaring need.
"While the Phillies are looking at relievers David Bednar and Dennis Santana of the Pittsburgh Pirates, they badly need a right-handed hitting outfielder at the trade deadline," Nightengale wrote.

Bednar has bounced back after a difficult 2024 season. In 33 appearances, the two-time All-Star is 2-5 but has a 2.73 ERA and has recorded 12 saves.
Santana is 2-1 with a 1.42 ERA and five saves in 38 appearances.
Both arms would be huge additions to a Phillies bullpen that is desperately missing Carlos Estevez and Jeff Hoffman, both of whom departed last offseason in free agency.
Jordan Romano was signed to be their closer, and he hasn't quite panned out, so the Phillies are going to need some help at the back end of their bullpen.
The Phillies have a very strong farm system and could pull off a deal such as this with the right prospects. Santana and Bednar are both under team control through 2026.
It will be interesting to see how the Phillies go about filling their needs.
