We selected Cardinal Mooney basketball coach Marlon Williams as our Girls Coach of the Year. You chose Venice basketball coach Tyson Smiley
The Sarasota Herald-Tribune is proud to honor area high school sports programs with our annual Sarasota-Manatee High School Sports Awards, which was held on Friday, May 30, 2025, at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota.
Throughout the year, The Herald-Tribune selects an All-Area team in each FHSAA sport. From those teams, we select an overall Girls Coach of the Year.
We chose Cardinal Mooney basketball coach Marlon Williams for the 2024-25 season. We then asked you, our readers, to vote and select the team you think deserved to be the Girls Coach of the Year.
After a week of voting, you selected the Venice High basketball coach Tyson Smiley as the Girls Coach of the Year with 53.36% of the vote. In his first season as the head coach, Smiley guided the green and white to a 19-6 record, losing to Winter Haven in the Class 7A regional final.
