Mason McGill discusses commitment to West Virginia baseball

Hedgesville (WV) left-handed pitcher Mason McGill didn’t have to look far to find his college baseball home.

McGill, the No. 1 ranked player in West Virginia for the 2027 class per Perfect Game, committed to West Virginia earlier this month after a recruiting process that began last December when he attended a camp in Morgantown. That visit kickstarted his relationship with the Mountaineer coaching staff, who stayed in touch throughout the winter and spring.

“The number one thing that stood out the most was the trust that was created between some of the players and coaching staff at WVU throughout the winter and spring up until this point,” McGill said.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound southpaw was named First Team All-EPAC and earned Second Team All-State honors in 2025. He tops out at 90 mph and features a changeup, curveball, and slider. McGill believes he can make a difference when he arrives on campus.

“I think I can be a good team leader and be a good pitching piece for WVU in a couple of years,” he said.

McGill has watched the West Virginia program grow over the years and sees their recent success as another reason why his decision was an easy one.

“It’s been great watching WVU grow as a program, and it has been great to watch over the years, especially watching guys I have met succeed throughout college. My love for WVU hasn’t changed one bit throughout the years,” he said.
