Real Madrid have their sights set on Manchester City superstar Rodri as a reinforcement in the midfield department.
A move for the Spanish international was considered for this summer but ruled out, owing to the massive fees involved as well as his fitness condition – after all he had only recently returned from an ACL injury and suffered a setback again.
But Real Madrid remain interested in Rodri for the summer of 2026, when he enters the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium. To counter this, Manchester City are preparing a bumper contract offer for their midfield mainstay.
Rodri undecided on future
Now, according to AS, Rodri has not made a decision on his future despite the contract extension Manchester City plan to present in the coming weeks.
He is aware that Manchester City will soon present him with a lucrative two-year contract extension until 2029, which would bring him close to the highest salary at the club, currently earned by Erling Haaland.

Nevertheless, he has neither decided nor feels any urgency to do so.
This situation takes on greater significance as Real Madrid are in the market for a holding midfielder, and the Spain captain is one of the players most admired by both Xabi Alonso and the club’s hierarchy.
Word has reached the City ownership of the positive opinion in the Spanish capital regarding their Ballon d’Or winner, setting off alarm bells.
For now, Rodri has next year’s World Cup firmly in his sights. He wants to win the tournament with Spain – the only major trophy missing from his personal collection.
If he reaches that point without agreeing a renewal, Manchester City would be forced to consider lowering their asking price to avoid losing him for free just one year later, with Real Madrid lying in wait.
Manchester City are determined to avoid this situation and will aim to accelerate the process as much as possible. But for now, the Spaniard has not made any decision.
