Man Utd backed to sign 'best in the world' to replace Andre Onana

Manchester United told to sign World Cup winner to replace Andre Onana, who had rocky two season at Old Trafford

Manchester United’s goalkeeper situation is once again under the spotlight. Andre Onana had rocky two season at Old Trafford, filled with mixed performances and moments fans would rather forget.

And now, a familiar name has popped up as a possible replacement — World Cup winner Emi Martinez.

The Argentine shot-stopper has hinted he may be on the move this summer after an emotional goodbye to Aston Villa fans.

While nothing is confirmed, whispers around the football world suggest he’s open to offers from Europe’s top clubs. United haven’t made a move yet, but the speculation is heating up faster than a goalmouth scramble.

Former United striker Louis Saha has now added fuel to the fire, backing Martinez to be a strong fit for the Red Devils.

Speaking to Coin Poker, Saha said, “Every top side needs a top class goalkeeper. Emi Martinez has been voted the best in the world for two years. He’s been exceptionally consistent with Aston Villa and Argentina.”

Saha also made it clear that even if Onana stays, the arrival of Martinez would create healthy competition. He added, “They need great performers like United used to have… He’s a great shot-stopper, one of the best in the world.”

Can Man Utd sign Emi Martinez?

Martinez is under contract at Villa Park until 2029. So any club hoping to sign him would need to open the checkbook wide. Villa are in no rush to sell either, having already balanced their books this summer.

He may not be known for his passing range, but as Saha pointed out, “I’ve not been overwhelmed by Onana’s ability with his feet either.” What Martinez brings is reliability, leadership, and nerves of steel — just ask Kylian Mbappe.

If United do go for him, it’ll be a bold call. However, even if Villa accepts the deal, it will be hard to get on personal terms with Martinez, who might prefer a move for playing in the Champions League.
