Vanderbilt defensive line coach Larry Black discussed the return of Zaylin Wood, crediting the training and strength staff for aiding his recovery from last season’s injury. Black described Wood as a versatile “Swiss army knife” capable of playing multiple positions along the line.
Black noted the importance of building depth, highlighting the goal of being able to rotate three units deep and maintain dominance at the line of scrimmage. Increasing sack production is a priority, with a focus on disciplined pass-rush techniques, closing space, and pressuring the quarterback.
Black praised Linus Zunk and Yilanan Ouattara for their work ethic and maturity, as well as contributions from newcomers and young players. Black emphasized that depth will be crucial in the late-season SEC schedule, enabling the unit to remain fresh and handle physical challenges down the stretch.
