Cody Gakpo has said the new signings at Liverpool have settled well with the Premier League champions eager to get the new season started.
Liverpool won the title under Arne Slot last season and have invested heavily in this summer’s transfer window to strengthen their successful squad. The Reds have spent in excess of £250m on new signings, including a British record deal for Florian Wirtz.

Having returned from a pre-season tour of Asia, Liverpool faced Athletic Bilbao at Anfield in their most recent warm-up fixture. Attention now turns to the Community Shield, where Liverpool face FA Cup winners Crystal Palace in the season’s traditional curtain-raiser.
Gakpo said there is plenty of excitement within the squad as Liverpool look to start the season with silverware at Wembley.
“It was a good pre-season from the team. I think we worked very hard and enjoyed some good games as well. I think everybody is eager to start now this upcoming weekend. I can’t wait,” Gakpo told the club’s official website.
“We have a good group in general. That makes it maybe a little bit easier to adapt for new players to come in. I think a lot of the players knew each other, maybe from playing against each other in the national team or things like this. I think they adapted well and quickly – hopefully they feel at home as well.
“Obviously, we’re going to play the Community Shield. It’s going to be an important game for us to start the season well, and that’s what we’re here for. We’re going to give it our best shot.”
