Indiana Fever Partner Deletes Post After Egregious Sophie Cunningham Mistake originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Sophie Cunningham has pretty much become a household name among WNBA fans over the past several months. The Indiana Fever guard’s rise to fame has been phenomenal. How the 28-year-old has now amassed 1.6 million followers on TikTok and another 1.2 million on Instagram is a clear testament to this fact.
This is exactly why fans weren’t at all pleased when Cunningham’s name was mixed up with another player, from the NBA, no less.
Indiana Fever Merchandise Promotion Gone Wrong
On Monday, a clothing brand named Authmade took to social media to promote its latest collaboration with the Fever. In it, Caitlin Clark and Cunningham are seen modeling some of Authmade’s products, which are exclusively available on the Indiana Fever’s official team store.
The problem, however, is that the post, which has since been deleted, included an egregious Sophie Cunningham error.
“Caitlin Clark and Cade Cunningham for Authmade’s @IndianaFever Collection. Now available exclusively @FeverTeamstore – while supplies last,” read the caption.

Cade Cunningham is a player for the Detroit Pistons. He is male and is not related to Sophie Cunningham. It is also worth noting that the Pistons are division rivals of the Indiana Pacers, who are owned by the same company that owns the Fever.
As seen in the screenshot above, the Fever Team Store also shared the post on X, which made the situation even worse.
Fans Slam Fever Partner
This is not the first time the Fever have teamed up with Authmade for official team merch. However, this appears to be the first occurrence of such a blatant mistake.
Fever supporters were, quite understandably, not at all pleased about the blunder.
"You call Sophie Cunningham Cade. This was supposed to be an Indiana Fever collection and there is only Pacers merchandise. Also, who is paying $65 for a T-Shirt? What an embarrassment," a comment on X read.
"her name is sophie," said another.
"They seriously calling Sophie Cunningham Cade?" a user wrote.
"They already deleted it 😭," noted a fan.
As of writing, neither Authmade nor the Fever Team Store has made a statement on the error. It does not seem like they have any plans to do so, either, and they will probably just sweep this under the rug and let the issue die a natural death.
Either way, this should probably serve as a good wake-up call for them, especially since it's the same Fever fans they're selling the merchandise to who have criticized them for this unacceptable mishap.
