When Ohio State takes on Penn State Nov. 1, the Buckeyes will hold their “Blackout” game. However, it likely won’t be at night, according to Ohio State AD Ross Bjork.
During an appearance on All Sides with Amy Juravich, Bjork predicted the matchup will kick off at Noon ET. He cited the amount of respect FOX has for the Buckeyes, considering their presence in the Big Noon Kickoff slot, as a reason he thinks that game will get the early window.
Bjork also pointed out the anticipation for the matchup against two of the top teams in the Big Ten. As a result, he thinks it’s a fit for the noon slot.
“I think we know the Buckeyes drive Big Noon Kickoff,” Bjork said. “That’ll be a high-powered game. So I think we probably know what’s going to happen around game time for that one. … FOX, they love the Buckeyes. And Big Noon is a big deal. They’ve invested in that time slot. We’ll presume it’s a 12 noon kickoff.”
The Penn State game is one of three “color out” games for Ohio State at Ohio Stadium this year. “Scarlet The Shoe” is planned for the highly anticipated season opener against Texas as fans will be asked to wear scarlet throughout The Horseshoe. Then, a “Helmet Stripe” game is set for Sept. 13 against Ohio when all fans will wear silver except the section directly behind the Buckeyes end zone.
Finally, the Blackout game will be Nov. 1 against Penn State. That game could be a Top-5 matchup between the top two teams in the Big Ten’s preseason media poll. It’s all part of the plan to reimagine the game day experience at The Horseshoe.
“Tradition at Ohio State is our North Star,” Bjork said in a statement. “As this process unfolded, we wanted to protect and honor our tradition while also evolving it with purpose, passion, and with Buckeye Nation at the heart of it.”
Ohio State is looking to continue its momentum from last year as the Buckeyes won their first national championship under Ryan Day’s leadership. They will have a new quarterback under center after Will Howard headed to the NFL. Julian Sayin and Lincoln Kienholz are vying for the starting job, and the winner of the competition will get the first snaps in the first game of the year against Texas.
