A ESPN analyst gave the Golden State Warriors an "incomplete" offseason grade as the saga with Jonathan Kuminga continues.
ESPN Analyst Gives Warriors 'Incomplete' Offseason Grade Amid Jonathan Kuminga Saga originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
It has been an underwhelming offseason thus far for the Golden State Warriors as they have failed to make any moves outside of the 2025 draft.
Both of their offseason moves came in the second round of the draft as they selected Will Richard and Alex Toohey but outside of those additions to their roster, Golden State has failed to make any other moves.
This is a surprise to many around the NBA as the Warriors were expected to be aggressive this offseason to upgrade their roster around their star trio of Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green.
Instead, Golden State has been awaiting a decision by restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga and while waiting, they have missed out on multiple free agent targets.
With their lack of moves, ESPN’s Kevin Pelton gave the Warriors an incomplete offseason grade as he, along with many around the league, expect Golden State to make moves after they figure out the situation with Kuminga.
“Having merely added a pair of picks in the 50s (Richard and Toohey), the Warriors are impossible to evaluate until they figure out the status of restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga. If Golden State indeed signs veteran center Al Horford and brings back guard De'Anthony Melton, as ESPN's Anthony Slater reported is possible, that would be a solid summer to build on last season's strong finish after the Jimmy Butler trade. For now, all of that remains on hold,” Pelton wrote.
Pelton does make a great point that the Warriors would have a solid summer if they are able to add both Horford and Melton, both of whom have been linked to Golden State for most of the summer.
Despite this, the two players, plus possibly others, are still awaiting an end to the saga between the Warriors and Kuminga and if it continues for much longer, they may look to sign elsewhere.
This would be the worst-case scenario for the Warriors as they try to chase another championship with their aging core of Curry, Butler and Green next season.
